It is really awesome to see where two powerful rivers converge. You can see eddy currents being created by the force of the two rivers.
I was thrilled to see where the Mississippi and Ohio come together. Plus it's a Louis and Clark stop. Not to mention the civil war history here. So sad to see empty liquor bottles everywhere and unable to use the observation deck due to every kind of stinging insect. This place has so much potential but appears to be abandoned and unsafe.
This location was fabulous. The views are relaxing, it is quiet, and very relaxing. I wish we would have discovered Fort Defiance several years ago. We will definitely be coming back for the scenic views and peaceful feel of this historic place.
From reading other reviews I expected to be disappointed. There were barges moored off to the east on the Ohio. They didn't obscure the view as bad as others have stated, but they do detract from the natural beauty. I spent about 15 minutes here. The lookout tower is covered in graffiti and its windows have been bricked up long ago. You can still get a slightly better view from the top. It would be more amazing if a much taller tower was constructed for a more impressive view.
Nice little park. Very interesting history. In a very run down area though.
Fort Defiance State Park: two rivers enter, but only one may leave.
